Before the 2nd World War Japanese swimming instructors used to place their charges in fundoshis so that if they got into difficulty they could grab the strap at the back and pull them out of the water.

After the war the Americans made western swim and underwear available in Japan and the fundoshi was less used.

I have been experimenting with fundoshis made from bamboo fabric, they are comfortable and can be worn by people who are allergic to elastic, synthetic and cotton fabrics.

I uploaded those pix with private setting. Only I can see them. First time shown on the net.

If here people are more receptive to men wearing less fabric undergarment/swimwear similar to the Japanese, I would just have different pattern cloths and wrap around wearing it at the beach. Instead of having a whole drawer of swimsuit collection.

NJH, I remember seeing a mood photo of you in a thong, you were much younger then and it was a very artistic picture. Thanks for the memory.

The fundoshi is a thong loincloth, the Japanese seem to have no objections to male buttocks being on show. To sumo wrestlers the loin cloth is just their fighting and training uniform. The West have become oversensive in this area.

Really nice nice photo, thanks.
I was young and wanted to be model actor.
It was done by pro photographer, during a model portfolio(contact card)shoot.

Thanks!

Purple fundoshi (rather confusing pic. with a mysterious pink ribbon) for Louis as he doesn't like white ones:
