Yes, I don't know the salinity of the Med. (nothing as heavy as the Dead Sea* I guess) but I have read that automobiles live longest in the climate of CA. What so often happens in places with snow of course is that the salt put down on the highways is very corrosive to vehicles.

*have you seen the tourist pics of guys floating there and reading newspapers ?
