My partner prefers for men to wear brief type swimwear. She doesn't find the boardshorts to be sexy. They belong on boys not grown men.

If a boy is a weak or learner swimmer wearing board shorts can drown him, he may never become confident in the water.
Let him wear something decent but lightweight and brief that won't drag half a ton of water with him. Let him discover swimming is fun and sliding through water sensuous.
