Default Old Movies

Yesterday I watched 2 old movies 2010 the sequal to 2001 A Space Odyssey 1984 and The French Connection 1971.
In 2010 we meet the main character in this movie up a radio telescope wearing short shorts, at dinner we meet his infant son feeding the dolphins also wearing short shorts. Later in really short running shorts he goes for a run and his son cycles alongside (on a quad cycle) wearing his normal short shorts, they are discussing the father travelling to Jupiter and being away for months. This is a 1984 veiw of the future in which men and boys live through the summer in short shorts as if it's normal.
2010 gets some things wrong though, you can buy tickets to the Space Station on Pan AM.
In the French Connection the main character an American police detective goes down to the main town beach complete with posh restaurant and finds men and women playing volleyball there, although this is still the town centre the men are playing volleyball in speedos and square cut swimming trunks. This wasn't anything special, it's how things were in 1971 in France when Jacques Cousteau was frequently on tv with his minimally clad divers.
I learned recently that his ship the Calypso had a large bulk wine tank installed to make voyages more pleasant.

I have read elsewhere that on the Calypso that the camera was off, so were the swimsuits. and that some of the footage couldn't be used because someone in the background was nude!

I collect "National Geographics," and Jacque was frequently featured. That is one of my earliest memories of seeing hot, fit men in bikini swimsuits, and I think I even recall seeing some "Rio Rears" in pictures bound within the "Yellow Cover!!!"

Mad Magazine #41 had a parody issue called The National Osographic Magazine since National Geographic had many photos of native people in loincloths and less.

This is weird. The shots I remember seeing, as a very young boy, the Calypso shots. I knew something was up (pun intended) when I first saw the shows. Never missed another.

Thank you for the reminders. I am not a sailor, but when I went to a boat show in the Chesapeake Bay, I was talking with a woman who was on board a restored sailing ship, sometimes called a "tall ship." As the conversation went on, I mentioned the old superstition that it was bad luck to have a woman on a ship, and she replied that on the high seas all the men were naked. This caught me off guard. I didn't know what to say next.

I also read that when men sail nude, they somehow can navigate using their testicles. Never an explanation of how that works, but I found it intriguing. That might be why they sailed naked.

I rewatched JAWS last night.
It was nice to see the beach populated by guys wearing a variety of swimsuits, tight, loose, short, and long, including Speedo briefs, instead of everyone in the modern uniform of loose trunks.

I found the Jaws movies to be a bit snappy!
