Front
A bit of crack in back is OK, but not any more than that. Front can go all the way to wear things start protruding from the body.

I like a low front with a nice bit of bush showing - that trail leading from the belly down to what we all want toget at. And a little ass crack in the back is nice, but frnt lower than back looks best.

I like lower in the front. In the back, I think crack is tacky. However, the back of the suit right at the top of the cheeks is perfect. No crack showing, but just low enough to have the suit leave a gap across the cheeks. My bikini bottoms leave just this much and my GF loves it. She can can slip a finger in my bottoms without making a big deal about it.

In the front -- low enough for a hint of hair.
In the back -- if you have a perfectly round hard butt - a little ass crack is cute.
if you have an average ass, just above butt crack.

Default front/rear exposure

There's quite a long tale here from one guy about his low-rise front/rear
choices if anybody wishes to follow this topic.
(readable but a sign-up needed for better print quality by the look of it)
