The types of underwear is infinite.
Humanity evolved in the tropics and wore loincloths as outerwear then moved towards the poles and needed leggings and smocks, keeping their loincloths as underwear.
The tee shirt was invented by the US Navy as underwear and is now used universally as outerwear.
Everything is confused by need fashion and opinion.

In some tropical countries it is normal to wear underwear around the house but to get dressed to go out.

If your underwear is likely to be seen in public your likely to wear more presentable underwear, if it is always hidden I rather not know about it.

LOL I suppose the first underwear occurred after Adam and Eve had sinned for the first time in the garden of Eden and they become embarrassed at seeing each other nude. Adam attempted to cover his balls and penis with a fig leaf, but that did not work too well :-)

Fig leafs begat loin cloths, and this all eventually leads right to Jockey briefs in the 1930s LOL

Just adding more on this subject, wearing swim suits that look like and fit like underwear are great, especially Speedo, TYR and Arena polyester or nylon briefs of nice color that can be worn, as underwear or as a swimsuit in public. These are among the best underwear styles covered or not covered under nice outside clothes like snug jeans.

At one time we had a neighbor who wore nothing but bikini underwear ar home,even when we were visiting. Didn't bother me but it made my wife uncomfortable.
