I have been thinking a lot about Dylan and Josh’s dilemma and the options that are available to them. That got me to thinking about my own college days, and rooming in a single-sex all male dorm. I had the opportunity to move into a then brand new high rise building at the start of my third year in college. The interesting thing about this dorm is that most of the rooms were set up as doubles, but there were a few single rooms available, nine total to be exact. So, if a guy wanted a single room, he had to move quickly on the day the rooms were assigned.

What do Dylan and Josh have to do with Cedric and Brian? It turns out, quite a lot. Writing about Cedric and Brian got me to thinking some more about what was going on in my own brain and body when I was that age. Male hormones are bombarding a guy’s brain relentlessly, and yet a guy does not fully understand how he is supposed to deal with this. At some level, a guy knows that all of this has something to do with forming a relationship with a partner, most commonly female, but even at 19, a lot of guys are not going to be prepared to deal with the consequences of penis-vagina sex. But the hormones relentlessly keep the guy feeling horny, more or less constantly, unless he can figure out a way to get some periodic relief from this situation.

What kind of relief? Well, you can guess. This need and urge to jerk off is all but universal among college-age males, never mind all of the elaborate schemes guys work out in order to attempt to do this on the sly, under the cover of darkness. Partner sex is fun, but jerking off on your own is terrific fun too. That is, if you can only figure out a way to do this secretly. Or, maybe not.

Now, the thing you need to know about Brian and Cedric was that they both fell into the category of pranksters. They loved to do things that, as Bruce, Brian’s brother, would call “grossing out” their friends just to see how they would react. A quick summary of that research says that perhaps 40 % of males who eventually marry have, at some point in their lives, had a sexual encounter with another male that led to an orgasm for one or both. The sex researchers seem less concerned about the meaning of all of this in relation to whether or not an occasional male-male sexual encounters means the guy is gay or bisexual than the public at large. The public at large seems to think that if this has happened at all the guy therefore must be at minimum bisexual if not “entirely” gay.

This gets into some really tricky stuff and into things about human sexual behavior that are not at all fully understood. First, let me say that I am as open minded as all get out on the entire subject of sexual orientation, and a proponent of the “whatever floats your boat” school of thinking on this. But I find it endlessly fascinating to try and better understand how guys get to the point where they eventually end up in this regard.

I’ve read all the stuff related to the science that says sexual orientation is ultimately determined by one’s genes. This perspective is the one promoted by the gay community--that a guy has no choice at all in the matter of sexual orientation but is stuck with whatever his genes say he should be.

But then, I keep thinking that in real life, sexual orientation determination is not nearly so simple and clear cut as this. People fall all over the five point scale from straight to gay and basically everything in between. At some point a guy might form a partnership that involves sex with another person, and that person will be either male or female. So the decision at that point is more or less 0-1. But then you have true bisexuals who like having sex with partners of either sex, and they do not fall neatly into one category or another.

I further conclude that guys who might ultimately live out their lives in a straight relationship may also have enjoyed engaging in some sort of sexual activity with a male partner. At the end of the day, the preference is still for being with a female, but that doesn’t discount the possibility that the male encounter perhaps was really fun sexually too. Seeing either sex as being absolutely equal in this regard (as a “true“ bisexual) is likely rare but certainly possible. At some point, most guys are going to get to the point where they at least prefer having a physical partner of one sex over the other, and, based on this most guys seem to ultimately be able to determine if they are actually gay or straight. At least, I think that is what is going on.

There have been many movies where the plot line involves a married man who has a gay male encounter, and what that means for a marriage. Sometimes males divorce wives and take up with a gay male. Sometimes females divorce husbands and move into a lesbian relationship. I’ve seen all of this up close in real life too. My only observation is that in general for both males and females, they seem to me to mostly be happier after the heterosexual breakup than before. I don’t want to ever judge people male or female in this regard based on what they choose to do. I’m not walking in their shoes, except to say that sexual orientation might be a bit more fluid than some of the gay rights advocates might care to admit given the effort made to promote the idea that sexual orientation is written in the genes and unwavering otherwise. Is this all somehow written genetically, or could circumstances matter and feelings about sexual orientation in one direction or another evolve in one direction or the other over time?

So, what does all of this have to do with modern-day Dylan and Josh, horny college roommates stuck together in a cramped dorm room? A lot of guys shortly after puberty sets in discover that their penises don’t always behave like a guy might expect. Still, a guy soon determines that male sexually is not anywhere near this simple. For starters, sometimes guys have “reactions” just thinking about stuff. Young gay guys may daydream or night dream about an encounter with another guy, and these dreams may parallel to a large degree those that straight guys have, except for the gender, of course. My objective today is not to go down that trail, but instead head down a different trail.

Nearly every guy at some point in his life has gotten into a situation where he has gotten an erection at a time and in a situation that he deems inappropriate, or at least his male peers would think is inappropriate. A lot of these happen in instances where there is no partner present at all. A lot of guys are really embarrassed by all of this, and think that there is something wrong simply because the guy’s head is saying one thing and the guy’s body is clearly saying something different. It’s this old problem of getting aroused in a situation where the guy thinks he isn’t supposed to be aroused.

No better example of this problem that a guy who gets aroused whenever he wears snug-fitting clothing, or even thinks about wearing snug-fitting clothing. Now there is nothing unsafe or illegal about wearing snug-fitting clothing. The only real problem is that if the other guys discover that I like to do this, I will likely get teased or bullied, unless, of course, there are other guys out there who also think its fun to get aroused wearing snug-fitting clothing.

So, what is the problem with all of this, then? Erections are fun. Really fun. Now the sad part is that there are lots of issues and dangers associated with having an erection in partner sex, whether the partner is male or female. The girl could get pregnant. An STD may get transmitted, Gonorrhea or Herpes, or even HIV. I can think of a dozen reasons why a guy might not want to have full-scale sex with a partner. Yet, erections keep happening, and something has to give, and probably on a regular basis.


I’ve talked a lot about male masturbation here. This has been a nearly constant theme. Now, I would be the first to admit that there is nothing at all wrong if a guy simply wants to rub or stroke himself to orgasm in the privacy of his own bedroom or bathroom. Brief-style swimwear perhaps tops the list of clothing items leading to male arousal in this respect. I’m convinced that a lot of the fear guys have of wearing swim briefs is linked directly to the fear that they will get an erection just putting a swim brief on, and one thing will lead to another. There is no greater fear a guy has than being seen in public not only with a an erection, but scarier still, a cum-stain on the front of the brief.

Wrestling singlets are made like swimming jammers but with a twist. Since the singlet is but one piece, there is a top with shoulder straps that like to tug at a guy’s groin area as he moves. Depending on your outlook, this can either be a feature or a potential problem.

A related increasingly popular item is snug fitting full tights designed for outdoor running.

The last item on this list has to include skinny jeans, once again hugely popular for guys. With the multi-stretch Spandex denim, some of these are becoming nearly as snug-fitting as a jammer or running tight. Good luck getting in and out of these without getting an erection.

It used to be, guys would occasionally get their nerve up for going to the shopping mall to find one or more of these items. But now, with on-line shopping, it is sometimes advantageous to make on line purchases. The selection and options will be greater, too.

How will a guy know if he has found an item that interests him at an on line retailer? Well, the male body is set up to do just that. That is where the cowpers gland and the precum sets in. I presume my readers would not still be following my stories if they did not see something of themselves in the story characters. And, I am suggesting that you purchase one of these in your normal waist size, say a 30, 32 or even a 34-inch waist if that is what you think you need.

Some of you are probably wondering what gives here anyway? Bill, Joe, Josh and Dylan don’t each have one of these. Can this clunky a swim brief somehow still be sexy and arousing? Could this possibly get me turned on in the manner these stories have been describing? Isn’t this more than a little old fashioned?

Well, yes to all of that. But, consider, one of the sexiest moments in all of swim brief wearing occurred in Season 6 of the long-Running “Dallas” nighttime soap. A then-young Christopher Atkins had this thing for the much older wife of J.R. Ewing played by a then still relatively young Linda Gray. Christopher plays a camp counselor for the Ewing boy. Numerous scenes are shot near a pool either at the camp or at the pool on the Ewing ranch.
What you will want to do is Google “Christopher Atkins Blue Speedo” and then do a Google Image search on that. You will see multiple photos of Atkins wearing the same Royal Blue brief with a Speedo logo. There is one thing that is basically the same in all of these multiple photos of Chris in his Royal Blue Speedo with three-inch sides. The producers of Dallas probably had a plan in mind when they let Christopher dress that way. They had to know that the camera would pick up the outline of the underside of Christopher’s penis underside pressing up against the slick blue Speedo®.

But, I would argue that this same visual had to affect men, straight, gay or in-between as well. As many of you know, I have been stressing the idea that the underside of a guy’s penis is a whole lot more sensitive to tough than the top side. Any guy who looks at these photos has got to realize that Christopher must be feeling quite good when those photos were taken in all sorts of different ways.
