could it be that he had a 1.5 suit that he had downsized. When that happens the sides stretch down to about 1"

Could it have been a "Turbo" suit? They have about 2" sides, but if the athlete had downsized his suit, the sides for the smaller suit might be less than 2".

It may have been 1 size smaller, but it was not polyester. And the back cut was purposefully narrower. I REALLY wish I had asked him what suit it was.

I am in TX for the time being, and I can have stuff shipped to/from anywhere I have friends all over the world from working for Royal Caribbean

There are a lot of 1.5" suits on the market in a variety of fabrics--Speedo, Arenas, Addis etc

Yeah, I found Kiniki last night and ordered an Arena suit off eBay.

I did finally find out that the suit was a custom suit for his other team. I meant to ask for the brand...it was one I haven't heard of before.

Try the LASC suit called San Tropez. Its a true 1" side

After I wrote the message, I did think about it, and it was probably a 1.5" side.
