Default An interesting dilemma for both Josh and Dylan, for sure…

et’s face reality here. 19-year old college guys, dorm roommates, talk about a lot of stuff. As anyone who lived under the circumstances of a college dorm. There is a wide variation with respect to how roommates fare living with each other. I guess the young college women face a lot of the same issues and concerns, but for guys, the struggle to find a workable way of navigating through the process with a male roommate frequently seems even more difficult.

Male buddies are oftentimes very good friends, and they talk about a lot of stuff and share information about what they know or have recently learned. This sharing of information is particularly important for teen boys just past puberty, when they suddenly become very interested in understanding anatomical details that they had little interest in prior to reaching puberty. For most young guys this involves uncovering the details of female anatomy and in particular the details of how sex works with a female partner.

A classic “coming-of-age” movie from the the 1970s is one called “Summer of ‘42” where Hermie, a young teen boy, encounters and then falls for a much older woman, a woman who lost her husband in World War II. A lot of the movie follows Hermie and his male buddies as they together learn about female anatomy and how to have sex with a woman from old books they secreted away. The “climax” of the movie is when Hermie actually has sex with the older woman.

Coming-of-age movies involving young teen guys who think they are gay are far rarer, and I am not aware of any movies that deal with that topic in the same way coming of age movies exist involving straight males. Gay teens obviously learn stuff about other guys in some manner, but the entire path is less clear and perhaps more complicated than the one depicted involving coming-of-age encounters for straight males.

So, where things get complicated for teen males irrespective of whether they think they are straight or gay has to do with the fact that while guys talk about a lot of stuff with their male buddies, the discussions usually center on some third party, presumably a female, as it did in the “Summer of 42” movie.

This means that any talk about what happens to a guy as he becomes aroused and how a guy responds sexually is off limits unless that discussion focuses on what is happening during a sexual encounter with a female partner, and guys vary a lot even on how they treat this.

In this regard, some guys are braggadocios, that is, when they have a sexual encounter with a female, they like to brag about it to their male friends. Even male adults who should be old enough to know better still do this, which is more than a little odd for sure.

A basic problem with the bragging is that whatever the guy said ends up circling back to the girl involved, and at that point all hell breaks loose. A guy quickly learns that if he has any sincere feelings for the girl then need to keep his mouth completely shut on what happened in the encounter, and that includes a completely closed mouth even to his closest male buddies.

Encounters involving other males for guy with, shall we say, have gay leanings get even trickier, because if that information should ever get back to a straight male, it sets the guy up for teasing, bullying, and worse. But the entire set of rules here are really complicated here in part because teen males learn a lot of stuff from their buddies, but the entire topic of what happens to a guy involved either in solo sex or in having some sort of an encounter with a male partner his age are strictly off-limits topics.

Now we circle back to Josh and Dylan and the activities going on right now in the dorm room. Josh and Dylan are both 19, and should know a lot more about sex in all its forms than they did as young teen boys. Further, in college, the general threats of being teased and bullied are less than they would have been as a young teen. For any number of reasons, Josh is not the kind of guy who is going to dash out into the hallway and tell any guy who might listen to him all the details of what he observed in the dorm room. At some level, Dylan fully understands that too. So, if this is a secret event, the secret is safe between the two.

Still, there are tons of unanswered questions. Let me raise the issues one by one. First, initially taken aback by the sound of Josh’s key in the dorm room lock, Dylan has quickly gotten to the point where there is something that he sort of likes about the idea of having Josh there watching him jerk off and observing the nuances of what he is doing to himself at every moment. Take note that Dylan did not suddenly stop stroking himself from base to glans (nor, for that matter, suddenly lose his erection) the moment Josh wandered into the room. This brings up thoughts that maybe many guys, however actively they attempt to hide their masturbation, might in fact find it arousing to being accidentally “discovered.” But, of course, that depends by whom.

Second, with Josh standing there, the sexual sensations, indeed the stiff erection itself, seems to be getting stronger and stronger, which is particularly interesting because Dylan has been riding along at near the point of ejaculation all morning long. Dylan has been having the “advanced course” in ejaculatory control for sure.

Third, Josh had always thought he would be “turned off” by seeing another guy his age erect and masturbating, and this turn-off was simply part of the whole deal of being a straight guy. But aren’t straight guys supposed to only be turned on in encounters with women? Indeed, when a guy finds a female partner, he is suppose to discard or simply leave all of his psychosexual interest in solo sex behind and never engage in solo sex again. Or, maybe not! Josh is not so sure at this point. But that is not how Josh feels right now at all, definitely not.

Fourth, Josh is having issues of his own right now and these issues are centered in his groin area. Josh just observing Dylan is feeling the tell-tale rumblings of sexual arousal himself, rumblings that cannot be ignored. At some level, Josh is thinking that would be a lot of fun to be in Dylan’s shoes right noy, except that Dylan is not wearing any shoes. Josh is trying to determine what exactly is causing his body to respond the way it is. Part of could be that skimpy thong Dylan is wearing, putting pressure on his perineum, and pushing Dylan’s penis and balls both up and forward. By Dylan has never tried on a thong, so he has no first-hand experience with these sensations. Josh at some point has already decided that he wants to try wearing a thong too, but that is not where he is this morning.

For Josh, what’s scarier still is the idea that he seems to like to watch Josh jerk off, and this gets more and more fun to watch as Dylan gets closer and closer to shooting. At some level, Josh understands this.

But what does all of what is going on this morning suggest for the subject of the sexuality of Dylan and of Josh? Can they both still think of themselves as perfectly straight? Josh and Dylan are both wondering about the same “crazy question.” Of the college guys in the dorm, how many would be turned off by what is happening versus turned on? Does being turned on at all mean that deep down, at some level, you are a gay guy? This is a good question for sure, and a question where there is no easy or simple response.

To be continued…
