Default Steve Grand

Damn - yes a bit of a doppleganger but frankjath has to go to the top of the class for observation ! (you just beat me on the pics NJH)

For PSD: if you look carefully to the "block" of SG to one side here, Joe's post#1 is in there: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/383298618257860293/

(Joe: Can't beat a good Chianti Classico but also Pino Grigio to your taste?)

Default "no strings"

No need to apologise Tw - no strings there because it was not intended for there to be any . I don't like them but I had a good opportunity to look up some Rio cuts for NJH. Thanks for the illustrations anyway.

Btw when it comes to terminology is it ok to say string here - or must it always be "side tie"?

A side tie is something different. So many variations upon a theme. The ones shown would wash away in a rough sea.

Default variations indeed...

This is French - no further explanation given except that it is le string:

It could be female as virtually no front and a bit of bum coverage - but turn around and it could be male as a thong with part disappearing down the butt crack, could it not?

I won't argue over the name of this one.
I notice the string passes through metal rings so it can be adjusted and balanced easily.
