I've had a long layoff from swimming, just getting back to it after about 2 weeks off. I was away the entire Thanksgiving week without access to a pool, then had a medical issue with my left eye which kept me out of the water until last Friday because of the risk of infection. Today, I finally felt like I got my rhythm back. Has anyone else had that experience of having to regain your rhythm after a long layoff? I'd be interested to know what others' experiences are.

Yes. I go every week, sometimes twice a week - but if I miss for even just a fortnight I do feel it a bit tougher.

The first day back is the hardest. You will feel more in sync within a couple days. Hang in there and you will be amazed how fast you are back in the groove.

Went 4 months without a good pool workout...went to a Master swim practice for first time back in...it was a bit rough for the first 2-500 yards, shoulders tight, wondering what the hell was going on...once they loosened up, it was pretty good the next 1000 yards. I also decided I wouldn't go 4 months until the next workout! I actually got back in two days later, and about once every three days since!
