Default Gran Canaria

No personal experience but considerable tourist activity in the southern half of the island where are the better beaches (and less rainfall) . Not aware of any speedo-wearing problems encountered there and Playa Las Americas most popular - too much so and overbuilt and tatty for some tastes however.

I would question "peak season" as we are in December, with the highest annual precipitation. Best annual daytime temperatures are in fact recorded for August/September.

Btw, "colony" might be offensive to the citizens of The Canaries which is an Autonomous Community within Spain (the name means dogs not birds).
Spanish regional administration is a minefield of confusing arrangements
whereas France simply integrates its overseas territories as departements of the homeland.
