Part of the fascination of making a brief swimsuit is taking flat fabric and creating something that defines and is defined by the male form in 3D.
The classic racing Speedos with 2-3" sides have a smooth lined front, there is competition between the wearer's bulge, the non stretch liner and the stretch outer Lycra to compress or display the bulge and the result it that although you know there's something there you're not sure what.
When you go below 1.5" sides you'll need a pouch to fit everything in. A smooth front attempts to be 2D while a pouch is very 3D. A lined pouch will support and disguise the bulge whilst an unlined pouch will support and display the bulge, especially when wet, a white or light coloured fabric will go transparent when wet displaying everything, be aware of this when planning your day.
I think my favourite swim brief colour is probably a strong yellow. Strong enough not to be transparent when wet but bright enough to catch the eye.
