When I was just a very young man....
Back starting in the late 1950s and the early 1960s, nearly every guy about my age wore white ribbed cotton briefs. After all that's what dad wore as well.
In much of this time I was still learning about my body and the stuff in my groin area . In particular that something that fit snug in the groin made me feel especially "good" down there.
Of course, I was growing rapidly them and the underwear that fit comfortably a year ago fit snugger and tighter on my body. I did not object to this at all. I liked to keep the briefs I had grown out of and still "try" to wear them some more. In fact it was a good thing.
I soon learned that a pair of undersized underwear was not a bad thing. The briefs I liked to wear made me feel good down there. I did not understand fully what was going on down there.
By the turn of the decade, The swim briefs worn by competitive swimmers kept getting snugger and skimpier. But making the transition to the new swim briefs that were not merely loose fitting nylon but a knit spandex-laced material was no big deal given that the guy had gotten himself "used" to wearing ribbed cotton briefs.
Starting in the mid to late 70s, guys started wearing plaid boxer shorts as underwear. These were not snug but lose fitting. A guy showing up in a locker room wearing an underwear brief made of ribbed cotton would be teased and hassled. Perhaps the guy in the briefs is gay.
All of this continues to change over time. Tight fitting briefs worn as underwear or as swimwear are still great fun.
