I have been to Loch Ness but was advised not to swim there, the water is peaty black, freezing cold even in summer and 800 ft deep.
Your "little monster" might shrink but the bigger problem is rapid body temperature loss and hypothermia.
On the Loch Ness project we were forbidden from swimming off the raft. When someone dropped a diving mask into the water it disappeared into the black water almost instantly and was lost.
I went up the steep side of the Loch following General Wade's Military Road then cut cross country to the little tarn I swam in. So easy to get lost up there, I had to walk on a compass bearing to get back.
So exciting to swim alone in the wild, exciting and a bit dangerous.
A close encounter with a big stag surprised us both.
