Junior speedos in camping commercials
In Britain at the moment a couple of chalet and static caravan resort owners are locked in competition for the summer holiday season and are using TV and YouTube commercials to get the attention of customers who can't afford to fly to Spain this summer.
Showing a young boy in an advert suggests energy, showing his mature older brother says strength. Whole familys are shown wearing shorts because in advertising land holidays are always warm, but they are wearing shorter shorts because your chalet holiday will be warm and sunny. In the resort's indoor swimming pools and water slides young boys representing energy and activity are shown in speedos or lycra square cuts for almost subliminal moments because this will catch the eye and sell the holiday because the viewer will think "That's what I want to do!" |
I understand that flying is high cost, but how well connected is the rail network in getting from England to Spain? I know of the Chunnel connecting England via Dover to Calais in France. Is this a less costly option? Or are the schedules made so that getting around is more time consuming?

If I get up early I can be in Paris for lunch and on the Bordeaux coast by afternoon tea time.
The hi speed rail network continues into Spain. The people that have been flying to Spain have been buying package tours, you buy a plane ticket and a resort hotel room from the travel agent, they arrange transport from the airport to the hotel and throw in activities. The people that use high speed trains and car ferries make their own connections and find their own campsites and hotels in Europe. The chalet/static caravan resorts in Britain sell a package but expect holiday makers to use their own cars to get there. One company; Eurocamp run chalets, static caravans and standing tents mostly in France for tourists to stay in carrying only their spare clothes, all other kit is provided. This might be of interest to Americans who fly in and rent cars or journey by train. The resorts are also showing images of mature and older people relaxing; drinking tea in the afternoon and wine in the evening. Who can resist a glass of chilled white wine as you watch the sun set into the sea? |
