Speedo Friendly Beach List

While many of us are sitting around waiting for the warm weather to get here, why don't we start a list of good speedo beaches. I'll start.

Long Island, NY
Jones Beach. The east end is a great speedo friendly beach. Drive or use mass transit. Head for Parking Field 6 (fee $10.) and head east for about a half mile. The crowd thins out and the beach is beautiful.

Black's Beach in San Diego. The glider port trail is the safest trail but be careful there, too! Ends on the straight end of the beach, the gay end is about a half mile walk north up the beach. Its a rather natural beach, waves and rip tides can be dangerous there. Shuffle your feet on the bottom to minimize stingray problems. Its best to keep your feet off the bottom, to start swimming as soon as you can, stingrays breed there in the summer. Its real scenic at the base of 300 ft. cliffs. in Balboa Park south of the prado there is a speedo friendly gay area too.

Thanks for your reply and addition. I tryed this to see if it would wake up this site but it appears nothing is going to help. It's a waste of time even checking it to see if there is any activity. I'm just about ready to pack it in.
Thanks for your effort.

Osterman beach, at the south end of the beach is an absolute speedo haven! In years past, one could go with a thong or g-string, if they wanted to go smaller than a speedo.

Personally I'm a fan of any quiet beach along the Lake Michigan lakeshore. They can be speedo friendly if you want it to be.

LIT, hang in there, summer will bring back some guys to the board.

SwimTeamSpeedo 03-09-2013 02:18 AM

Ogunquit Maine and Hatteras Island, NC

Agree, Epic, Lake MI has awesome beaches and the lake is incredible. Silver Dunes is too die for. As to fav beaches...Ogunquit, Maine and Hatteras Island on the Outer Banks are great beaches for totally different reasons. Ogunquit is an amazing Maine beach with a very open attitude, Hatteras is full of long stretches of private beach space and great for long morning runs.

Thanks for the tip! I'm new to the NYC area and have only been out to Fire Island beaches before, which are also speedo friendly in The Pines and Cherry Grove especially (though I haven't been able to find much info on how they fared during Sandy.) Worried about the beautiful homes, boardwalks and beaches themselves...

but I'll definitely have to check out Jones Beach this summer!

Friendly beach list

Well we here in Canada are not as blessed as thje US or Australia for beaches, never the less there are nice ones in Nova Scotia and British Colombia.
Here near Montreal is Oka beach on Lac des deux montagne, about 1 and a hallf mile long, life guard, picnic tables, camping permited, soft brown sand, and at the ouither end of the beach about a mille is the gay part where speedos are friendly and welcome.
Also there are great beaches on the great lakes, on the canadian and american sides, one that i liked in particular is a small beach near Blind River Ontario, on lake Huron , a very secluded beach that would be a heaven for gay and non gay speedos wearers.
And hey LongIslandTom you didnt do to bad after all, yes it is frustratiing not getting to many responses to our posts, I recently sent one about aquiring about fleshlights and didnt get any rrsponses at all-OH WELL..

SwimTeamSpeedo 03-09-2013 02:43 PM

And Louis, Canada and the northern most states of the US also have wonderful, crisp and clear lakes. I love swimming open water in a clear and clean wilderness lake and hanging out on the shore....

Friendly beaches

Me also but prefer beaches like Provincetown and south beach etc.
I dont know if you are like me buy wearing a pair of jeans like wranglers and levis and a speedo gives me a sense of freedom, i feel like living in another worl without problems, contraints, and void of all responsabilitys, not to sat also shorts but short short one not those ugly long ones and those cargo ones.

Swimmboy 03-09-2013 08:08 PM

The main beach in Fort Lauderdale - the one near the International Swimming Hall of Fame, and pretty much along the shoreline many blocks north or south - is Speedo-friendly. And one benefit is that you often see swim team or dive team members along the beach tanning and swimming in their Speedos.....

Making it a bit closer, Brighton Beach Brooklyn NY is Speedo friendly as I heard. As Russian men are accompanied to wear Speedos !

Exactly! Near Chelsea.

Understandable, many city parks have water spray features for the kids. So, these are for adults too.

NJHunkguy 03-11-2013 04:34 PM

For years, there had been many people dry tanning along the piers. These are there for the idea of cooling off! And for the runners too.

LongIsland Tom 03-12-2013 08:48 PM

Glad to see so many post.
Two suggestions. When you post a beach give as much detail on the location as possible. And let try and keep to the subject matter.
Speedo Friendly Beaches.

Thank guy. LIT

SwimTeamSpeedo 03-13-2013 01:53 AM

Seriously? A week ago you are fed up at no posts and now you are upset that a few posts, mine included, ventured off topic.

LongIsland Tom 03-14-2013 02:16 AM

Your thought process confuses me. How do you convert my comment that I am "Glad to see so many responses" into me being upset?

knikon 09-10-2013 05:46 AM

Reviving this for no good reason... Laguna Beach in CA is great for speedos. Last time I went 80% of the guys were in speedos. You may catch 1 or 2 in Hunnington bch too.

Venice and Palos Verdes are speedo friendly in cali too

Re. post#16 some beach nostalgia here where they have probably been speedo*-friendly for a long time:

*use the term as widely as you wish

Lots of pics but rather dominated by NJ* - there are nevertheless others you may recognise. Captions of seventy years ago are amusing - all sorts of suits are "brief" and those gaudy prints we see on boardies today would be very "loud".

More nostalgia

Off topic from "speedo friendly beach list" but prompted by Byron's trip down nostalgia lane. During the 1970's, 2 print sources I used to look forward to where I could catch glimpses of men in what I thought were very brief (and very attractive) swimwear: 1st, the Sunday New York Times Travel Section, and its advertisements for Caribbean vacations, and 2nd, the occasional shot of European competitive swimmers, especially (as I recollect) the East German teams. Does anyone have a stash of these to share? Were the suits as brief as I remember them, or is my mind playing tricks on me?

Byron 09-11-2013 01:29 PM

collections

:D Yes, they were and good pics could often be found in the free holiday brochures sent by travel operators.
I had quite a stash - unfortunately all binned many years ago as I grew up.
DDR swimmers were certainly good - but too good ( doping scandal, 1976 Montreal Olympics).

Byron 09-11-2013 01:45 PM

PS

As I mentioned NJH I will slot this in also to bring us more up to date - but must ask him for beach location as I suspect not NJ this time (btw, against what was Gunnison so fortified?)

It was Laurence Harbor beach, NJ. Located in the inner bay, not facing the Atlantic Ocean. The land in the background was Staten Island, NY. There were pollution problem in the water in recent year, so swimming is not longer allow. Sunning is OK. And further troubled with erosion caused by Hurricane Sandy.

Byron 09-12-2013 09:00 AM

Thanks...

....never a dull moment over there - the boardwalk also wrecked by a few
hurricanes in the past I believe.
I have now learned a few things - the battery was established for the defence of New York harbor and subsequently became Fort Hancock (what is in the pics
might be one of the famous or infamous disappearing guns but is perhaps rather too modern for that ).
Interesting that the only nudist beach now remains because Gunnison Beach
is federal land and local ordnances to require clothing cannot be imposed it seems.

PSDave 09-12-2013 07:56 PM

wouldn't it be more prudent to post speedo Unfriendly beaches? I have never seen or heard of a beach that speedos were unwelcome.

Byron 09-12-2013 09:55 PM

definition

Good point - I have never quite understood the "friendly" discussion as the enjoyability or otherwise of some beaches seems to fluctuate between local decency bye-laws and rude remarks from other beach-goers - or a combination of both.

Byron 09-28-2013 12:35 AM

The Italian guys certainly seem to have no problem and know just what they
want to wear.

Bumping this -- anyone have any updates?

I'm thinking about visiting the NYC area around Labor Day and was trying to find gay beaches in the area, since I'm gay and I figure those are the ones that are most friendly towards Speedos. I found info about The Pines on Fire Island, but the pics online seem to be of mostly fit guys in Speedos. Being more bear-y myself, I was wondering if anyone knew of any bear friendly beaches in the area, or if I should just brave it and sport my speedo along with all the other guys?

area51tazz 06-24-2015 07:28 PM

JUST DO IT mang. :P

It's becoming more and more accepted in the U.S., and if you're confident about it, you'll be fine!

How's the crown down there? Am I expecting to see a lot of older gay men ogling at other guys or is it super fit younger guys that make me feel inadequate, lol? How prevalent are speedos? I really would like a speedo tan, but I don't want to be over-dressed.

I am so down to go, but I just haven't found the time. At the back of my head I also want to lose some weight and tone myself up a bit. So, I've put off going for another month.

Torchwatch 06-27-2015 10:16 AM

The older gay guys will be ogling the super fit young guys.
Since you do not aspire to being super fit you will be ignored.
Of course, watching the older gay guys ogling the super fit young guys will make you jealous of the unwanted attention they receive.
Wearing your speedos and being ignored on a beach seething with unrequited sexual tension may be slightly perturbing, so get yourself fit and slim enough to be noticed but not constantly followed about by wayward eyes.

Aruspeed 10-18-2017 07:59 PM

Thought I'd try to resurrect this thread.

Eagle Beach in Aruba. Probably speedo to square cut to boardies ratio of 1:4:25. .but...no one paid any attention to me in my speedo at all regardless or age or what they were wearing.

I can also attest that Brighton Beach in Brooklyn, NY is speedo friendly. Those flickr pics are pretty old, but I was there in 2014 and even the lifeguards wore orange sunga-type speedos. Speedo ratio was probably 1:15 or so.

Cabb50 10-19-2017 05:20 PM

All the time

I haven't worn board shorts in about 3 years, I'm from Rhode Island, which has lots of beaches

Bede735 10-20-2017 10:31 AM

I don't follow the term 'speedo-friendly'. That infers that if nobody's wearing them at the beach, and you decide to put on a pair on you'd be subject to hostility and abuse. Really? Does that ever happen?

Shouldn't the term be 'speedo-prevalence?

Torchwatch 10-20-2017 04:58 PM

Surely there would be grades of beaches that would vary day to day depending on exactly who is there in any given day. I would suggest as follows:

Speedo violent: Wear speedos and someone will come over and hit you.

Speedo shunning: People will turn their backs on you and avoid contact except for unfriendly sideways glances.

Speedo snideing: People accept you in your speedos but make occasional snide remarks that you are intended to overhear.

Speedo neutral: You wear your speedos, they wear their baggy shorts, live and let swim.

Speedo friendly: Enough men and boys in speedos for brief swimwear to appear the normal option without it seeming to be the "gay option".

Speedo majority: Nearly all men and boys in speedos, anyone sunbathing or swimming in big baggy shorts beginning to look ridiculously overdressed.

beachg0y 10-20-2017 06:22 PM

Torchwatch, I like your gradient approach on the matter. I wonder how easy it would be to develop a single forum entry with such a "grade" for each country, region, state, beach, pool (or whatever that would be easily updated by members based upon experiences).

For all of you who like me have been the first guy (sometimes the only) to swim/sun at a pool or beach in what you find comfortable/practical/preferable to wear, thanks. You gotta realize in some of these uptight locales you're giving other, less-daring dudes the go-ahead to follow your lead.

Glad for this board and the free thinkers herein. Happy Friday, guys.

Cabb50 10-20-2017 10:48 PM

Beach

I go to the beach quite regularly and I'm the only one wearing a Speedo and my girlfriend wears a thong, not a over popular beach, no one has ever bother us, why would they.

SwimAddict71488 10-21-2017 08:07 PM

How is Clearwater beach in this regard? I have quite an interest in that beach as well as Lanikai in Oahu.
