Sports to do in a speedo
There have been a handful of threads of speedo sports but how about one that addresses all of them. I'm sure all of us keep our eyes open when a sport is speedo friendly. Sports are a just great reason to go out in one of your suits too.
I have seen athletes wear speedos in Running, Triathlons, Swimming, Water Polo, Underwater hockey, Diving, Sychronised Diving, Free diving, Surfing, Windsurfing, Kitesurfing, etc, Ive also seen guys wear them in Tubing, Paddleboarding, Kayaking, Boogie boarding, Tough mudding, Bungee jumping, scuba diving, and I know I am forgetting something. What sports have you seen speedos in that I am missing and what sports would you wear a speed in. I kayak in mine and I would love to try tubing in one... |
forgotten speedo ?
LOL - with such a comprehensive list, probably not and sky-divers no doubt need their body suits to keep a lot warmer in high jumps (but who knows what might be underneath?).
I could in fact volunteer badminton (I have worn them for that in the past in preference to a jock). You didn't mention water skiing but I sure don't know tough mudding (is that something like an army assault course?) |
How about wrestling. Sometimes the wrestlers don't wear their singlets.
|
Quite so...
...some experiences to be related from hot boi Jami on that I think.
(there is I believe in the wrestling fraternity a division in the jock or no-jock decision to wear them under singlets in their bouts)(I know which way I prefer!) |
I hope I didn't go down the slippery slope with my reply.
|
Going down water slides in speedos is fun.
When the French use big waterslides they tuck their speedos into thongs and go down faster on their bums. I've tried it, it works! |
Other than swimming
Water slides in a speedo are great. That's the only style of suit I wore when I went to Atlantis. Don't recall seeing any other men in them on the slides, but there was a substantial minority in them at the pool & beach. There were several men, including me, in at the poolside carry out lunch counter.
Only place in the US I have tried it is Disney. There are always some men there in speedos, but I don't recall ever seeing any at another US water park. One other activity is beach volleyball. I know someone who plays regularly and he mentioned that while board shorts are most common, a few of the men play in speedos. |
Its such a nice relaxed feeling to ride the bike in a speedo. I like to jog in a speedo on the beach and just jump in the water whenever I feel like it.
|
I agree with riding in a speedo... I totally forgot about volleyball. Much better in a speedo.
Wouldn't it burn going down a water slide with a bare bum? |
Big water slides are continually wet due to irrigation system and customer fear.
|
the list
I too had completely forgotten volleyball - sungas and sometimes speedos are to be seen, particularly on Brazilian beaches (there is limited activity there also in beach wrestling).
Burning of the bum would not be a problem on a multiple waterslide I would think as the volume of water is a sufficient friction barrier. What might be a problem is the arms on the sides of a chute - need to tuck-in well on a narrow one. Funny to think that hoisting the speedos is for the opposite purpose by the Aussie guys in their surf boat races. |
Volleyball
I forgot to mention that the volleyball player I know said that while a very few US natives play in speedos to show off or intimidate the oppostion, speedos are more common on recent European immigrants.
|
old habits die hard
LOL - the French didn't invent the word le string for nothing.
|
Ill wear a speedo when Im doing my Kung Fu training outside.
|
It's not a sport, but Bikram Yoga is a great place to wear a Speedo.
|
It still is a great activity to wear one in... Ive wondered about speedos in volleyball. Why are the womens suits always riding up? When I see a gu in speedos playing he is always wearing a solar1 and it fits well but the womens suits are all over the place...
|
gender difference
Contours of the hips - the female body has to accommodate a womb.
The girls can simply pose well in their itsy bitsies but strenuous athletic activity means they will not always remain as neat in their kit as the boys can be. |
And it is women who are considered normal and proper fit when wearing such garments lol... I love it anyway.
|
wrestling
A good sport for wearing a speedo/bikini is wrestling. If you have not seen movimuswrestling, then watch some of the matches, and I think you will agree. It is real wrestling (ok a little show), but it is real wrestling. And the guys, most of them look just fine. I've been to many matches in person. And the speedo assortment is amazing, I should know!

nice speedos

One of the boys from movimus...wearing one of the many many bikinis/speedos I purchased for movimus (formerly NHB) over the years...great to wrestle in these! |
Jimmy
OK - do the guys stick to nylon or Lycra - or doesn't matter ?
(NHB was previously NoHoldsBarred?) |
Yes it used to be NoHoldsBarred...changed about 2.5 years ago to Movimus...it is a good honest company. And I think their product is very very good.
I used to go hunting on ebay for years...many of the suits I got were new, unused - it didn't matter lycra/nylon either was fine...many of the suits were from Europe or Asia, some in the US. So almost the entire collection of suits that the owner has, is mainly purchased by me. Some are swimmer briefs ( 2 inch sides), some are more true bikinis (1-1.5 inch sides, higher cut, backside may be less full although some of the Asian suits cover full backside and still are 0.5-1 inch sides, with nonpouch front - those a re the best suits). |

One of the biggest problems with guys that like speedos is they are basically chickens. Guys may go to the beach or pool with speedos on under their shorts and not see another guy in a speedo and not take the shorts off. Has it ever occurred to you guys that maybe there are a lot of other guys with the "I don't want to be the only one in a speedo" mentality that are sitting on the same beach in their shorts. If you like your speedo and look good in it, by all means wear it. So what if you are the only one, you know you are comfortable and like what you are wearing. A regular cut speedo is a common swimsuit and nothing to be shy about. I have a basic black 2" I travel with (among others) that I can wear if I am unsure how the crowd by the pool. I found another way to deal with the speedo is speak French and they will think you are a tourist. |

Back in 1981-1985 - in NJ where I am from, in Vernon Valley-Great Gorge, there used to be a water slide theme park (rather unsafe now that I am thinking about all the hazards!) called Action Park...when i went there during those years, I would say at least one in four guys, and among guys under 30 that was one in three, were wearing a speedo/swimmers brief, even the lifeguards there wore speedos. I don't remember anyone making a fuss, but in the 80s - speedos were a regular occurrence - at Swartzwood State Park, Lake Hopatcong...and of course up and down the Jersey Shore - Seaside, Asbury, Atlantic City, Wildwood... |
Shallow water net fishing.
In Aquitaine in the Bay of Biscay, France; the locals go fishing in speedos and square cuts. They use "volleyball" nets that they walk through the shallows as the tide goes in or out and catch any fish passing by.
I guess this is a sport and it provides dinner. This is a type of fishing best done in speedos. http://six.flash-gear.com/npuz/puz.p...295&k=51974062 |
Seining

Salmon caught in Columbia River Oregon 1914 (no speedos - probably a bit cold) |
sports to do....
torchwatch- doen the puzzle, looks more like a squarecut
Byron, how terrible long --UGE... URK... |
sorry about that...
Tw will have to come up with some pictorial (and piscatorial LOL) evidence here. Nowhere do I find any speedos - far from it for the seiners I have seen.
Ancient method - I thought of French etymology but it apparently goes way back to the Greek sagene (meaning fishing net) |
The original photograph taken in 2003 shows the fisherman's son dressed in red speedos at the other end of the net. I cropped the photo to leave him out as he seemed a little young for this site.
So here are a couple for strange swimwear fishing videos for you. http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=...0372FA7A88968F http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=...05A6BA90094725 |
confession....
Sacre bleu ! - I had earlier found the larger pic but did not know that it was you who had done the crop-job.
(great vids - hope you also check your canned tuna labelling at the supermarket - must be line-caught under marine conservation rules but I guess that's like telling the Japanese to observe the whaling quotas) |
You have seen this picture in uncropped form? How? I took it while on a trip to the Gironde, I had been hike camping from Cap Feret to point du Grave. I haven't published any part of this picture before.
Along the North coast of Brittany and the Atlantic coast of France mackerel come in along the beaches especially as the sun goes down. As the evening draws in the sunbathers and swimmers leave the beach and the fishermen line up along the shore for rod fishing. They are fishing for their breakfast, not attempting to catch giant record breaking fish. Since they are regulars what they are doing is normal, it is normal for some of them to fish wearing speedos while they step into the water. So no photographic record is made, so it is not surprising that few photos of guys fishing while wearing speedos exist. |
Seine
LOL - my apologies if my memory is playing tricks - I must retrace through many pics. to find again what I thought I saw.
If/when I do I must PM the link as you thought it not appropriate for publication (but if it is on Google Images it is there for all the world to see anyway). In the meantime here is another Seine, which is Paris. No, it is not a further crazy French method with blue steel fishing rods staked out along the promenade but the so-called beach (ugh!) and a Bateau Mouche : http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/...ce.xlarge1.jpg |
ANY watersport!
Surfing is sooo good in minimal swimwear! Too bad the tribal culture of it dictates otherwise... I did Wet-n-Wild water park on the Gold Coast Australia many years ago with my then-girlfriend-now-wife, both wearing very small rio-style briefs. Yes, you go much faster! |
vid.
Got the thong and the body board but the action is cut a bit short:

Not sure this counts!!!!
I have worn speedos for every water sport I've done as long as the water is warm enough, but my most favourite "sport" to do in a speedo on most often much less is head to a London park and catch some rays!!! Just love the "sport" of sporting brief tan lines!!! LOL
|
brief tan lines
Yes - sport or not, it is also rather a shame that Minimalist's Tan Lines thread of 06-10-2013 has been dormant for ten months.

Things to do in a speedo
This is a video I saw on Youtube a few years back... Not so much sports but good anyway.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12vA5KL_Gpo |
I have played volleyball in a public park with friends several times. I also ways had a Speedo (or such) under my shorts. Eventually, it would get too warm for shirts (South Florida) and many of the guys would toss them to the sides.
At some points my "team" would be behind in score and it would be Match Point for the opposing team, and they would be serving. I'd shuck my shorts leaving me wearing nothing but a (often times) multi-colored Speedo! Threw the opposing team's serve every time! I'm no slouch in fitness, but I think it was the wild color schemes and/or patterns that truly threw them off. Won a lot of games that way. Not all, but a lot. SK |
