For a typical body builder, they have off season. When they eat a lot and train a lot, gain weight. The body is bulk but not ripped. Prepare for the competition, they will lose fat, salt and water, to increase the visibility of the muscle tone.

Last winter I tried that for the first time, I purposely gain 30 lbs in 5-6 months of time. I was (a little) bulk and fat. Began in May, I started to lose it for the summer. But until today, I am late. I still have a thin outer layer of fat. Hope to be successfully getting ripped. It is a slow progress...

You are to be congratulated if you can stick to the (not always palatable) diet NJH but hope you will be rewarded with some good results (and 30 lbs does sound like a BIG weight-gain - remember that you are not a tall guy).

True, I don't look nice with 30 extra lbs. Starting to cut down calories, some carbohydrate.
