What WON'T you ever buy for yourself in speedo patterns and/or colors?

I will start: STRIPES
horizontal might just be ok in a subtle color combination
but never vertical (wide black and white - ugh !)

PSDave 03-24-2012 04:35 AM

Sorry, I got the nylon Aussiebum blue and white vertical stripes - love it.

From what I have heard, the first pattern that Speedo brand came up with was stripes.

SwimTeamSpeedo 03-24-2012 11:52 AM

While not hate, I tend to avoid solids, prefer prints or splice and like more bold colors. Like suits with white, but tend to avoid wearing them in public settings, unless the other colors adequately mask the sheerness of the white. I absolutely do not like the more fashion oriented suits that mount the strings so they are on the outside. I also do not like the square cuts with the shoelace type or footballs pants frontal tie up. Just looks weird to me.

Having said that, unless I am at a swim meet or practice, I like to have at least some drawstring exposed... a little tease..lol

Lap Counter 03-24-2012 02:08 PM

I prefer solid colors or all-over patterns. Not a fan of "splice" suits that add patterned side panels to otherwise solid black suits.

Byron 03-24-2012 03:37 PM

splice

:) Thanks - now I know the word for what I could never properly describe
(agree - not a great fan either)

Interesting couple of functional points from STS.

I often wonder whether the fashion designers spotted the macho habit of some speedo wearers to let the draw cord hang out at the front - and so came up with a design to bring them out on the front of the waistband in the first place.

The "bootlace" tie front is also intriguing. The first element of attraction here would I think be butt emphasis (pull it all in tight as in a woman's corsetiere). The second might be trying to say "I've got such a splendid big package to accommodate that I need all the opening I can get to put these on and then it all needs to be strapped in" (often favored by bodybuilders).

(the front lace-up seems to be in some favor but I have not seen the old side lace-ups come back into fashion - in brief or square cut).

Torchwatch 03-24-2012 04:46 PM

I don't mind colours, printed patterns or text, the limited size of a swim brief is an ideal place to express yourself artistically. but what I think looks dreadful is a suit where the elastane has worn out of the lycra and the suit is dangling half way down to the knees instead of being skin tight.
Monitor your suits and retire that old favourite before it becomes an embarrassment.
If you swim train several times a week it is probably best that you wear expendable working swim suits and keep your favourites safe for special occasions.

OK - hope these work:

I expect you mean these : http://www.speedoshenanigans.com/wp-...2/02/beach.jpg

However I wish to change my mind having found this yummy and unusual suit with two stripes (and just what are those mysterious emblems on the front?) :

PS: Nice blue solid AussieBum for LapCounter, including string for STS:

Byron, thanks for today's post with 3 URL's. Unfortunately for me, the 2nd URL did not open.

Byron 03-30-2012 04:53 AM

second URL

:o Sorry about that - I corrected 1 and 2 above and tested and retested so that both now open as I wanted.

Will try an alternative but it's a difficult image to pick up

Re. PSDave post of 03-24-12:

Speedo Corporation tell me not stripes - it was a solid racerback.

Denverswim 04-06-2012 06:24 PM

My least favorite speedo thing was one time I got one of my early ones and it was not quite tight enough. I did not like the way it fit. Since then I have always been careful that my speedos fit super tight and I like them real low front and back.l

sorry again.....

:o I have to find it again - a WP guy for Denver (very low cut black speedo pic - exactly as he likes them).

Crail 04-10-2012 06:29 AM

sorry again

Byron, don't feel too bad. Your efforts are appreciated; especially since I rarely, if ever, post pics.

.....I hope (but tell me if not).

Denverswim likes tight speedos low on front and back and this water polo player is wearing anonymous black (though a vague sign of what may be a logo on his left side) - and I particularly like the way he wears them so well.

A typical little Japanese Arena being worn here also:

Looks like a mini square cut to me, side seams are to long to be a brief style.

Byron 04-11-2012 04:10 PM

 Whatever they are I said they looked good on him.
I didn't describe them as a bikini cut (which is not the sexiest style anyway and cannot be carried well by some guys) and Denverswim simply said he liked his to be super tight and real low, front and back.

Byron, thanks for your tenacity in finding the URL's. From my perspective, the pics are a delight to the eyes; perhaps, even, uplifting. LOL

;) Thanks Crail - like that word and am still trying to retrace one which was an uplift for me.
