About time I see water polo boys in skimpy ...

speedos!
It's always those "wide sided" drag suits. Would you say 1.5 inches? Maybe 2 inches at the most? Any idea what kind of suit they could be. No logos :( |
WP players
Nice pic - agree they should all be like that but haven't a clue here (metaphorically and literally) to give an answer.
I would go with 1.5 but something about the lines of the dark blue speedo makes me suspicious whereas the light blue seems to be genuine. (TightJeans is good on photoshopping detection it seems but no posts from him for a long time and he has yet to explain why he said so for the blue TYR on the Mission Viejo guy) |
PS
Can't agree on always seeing wide-sided drag suits as the WP guys often show up with some pretty neat and low cuts in their choice of team speedos*
(and all those tanned bodies in a line-up photo are quite impressive - actually saw an untanned player in the middle of one such and he sure looked out of place). *LOL - to show what I mean: http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m5...xrgo1_1280.jpg |
Yes - water polo players are 'notorious' for wearing some of the briefest Speedo or Turbo or Ducko suits available. I've seen hundreds of pix from water polo meets, and have attended quite a few meets myself and can never remember seeing a water polo player in a wide-sided 'drag' suit!

and this one....
TWO interesting clues show now but I still can't work these out:

dp was a line of underwear that came out in the 80's by Jockey. They were basically a nylon speedo type brief that came in a variety of colors. The dp stood for double purpose.(swimwear or underwear) New at the time since there was little on the mass market in anything but cotton tighty whiteys in a briefer cut. Since Jockey is an international company, perhaps they are still or again are being made somewhere.

I guess it's just my luck at seeing WP guys in "grandma" type suits.
The pics you guys posted look GREAT!! :) I have often times noticed the suits tend to fold into themselves around the waistline which might a suit look "briefer" than it really is. I think that seems to be the case in one of the pics. Nevertheless, great pics! |
Yes...
.....the speedo roll-up or roll-down factor can often be confusing in pics , eg the surf lifeboaters at Bondi and elsewhere who want their bum cheeks firmly gripping the seats for rowing.
(and thanks to PSD for brand info - the only dp I knew was an old chain of ladies' fashion shops called Dorothy Perkins)(and remarkably similar) |
PS Dave - I loved those underwear/swimwear "suits". Still have two somewhere, but I got them.

Now the second WP player - could there be Vodafone sponsorship on speedos ?

These seem like 2-2.5" suites. The white guy in the back looks amazing! |
The guy in the left of the picture seems to wearing a 1.5 inch suit.

We need a line-up to work you all out !
Btw, nice mystery blue Turbo here with an unusual green decoration and/or symbol: http://24.media.tumblr.com/c61531d58...53ldo1_500.jpg |

Purdue water polo
oh my! In the past two weeks I've had the pleasure of swimming adjacent to another Purdue water polo player - sadly I learned (in conversing with him) he is a senior and graduating and I will no longer have the privilege of seeing his 6'4" 220 pound (from team stats online) red-headed deliciousness in the beloved Purdue speedo bikini with the train wrapping around onto his beautiful behing. He is not a twink, very robust build...and oh my what a nice bulge...and in the shower/locker room - well he looks just as delicious without his suit on...hehehe. In a short conversation in the locker room about whatever, future plans blah blah...he did refer to his girlfriend - twice...so I'm guessing he is off the market...but he is nice eye candy! Or was, since he goes back to his home state far from Purdue! Oh well...I 100% support Purdue water polo anyway.

They were great suits, I am surprised that someone else remembers them. I was drawn to them for obvious reasons (yellow was the most fun -- see thru when wet) but I was also drawn to them because dp were also my initials so I had monogramed suits. I think I still have a well worn yellow one and a blue one left somewhere. |

I remember playing water polo and we always wore two suits that were about 2 sizes too small. We wanted them as tight as possible so the opponent couldn't get a hold of them and pull you under. If there was anything to grab on they would and either pull you under or rip the suit trying to (the reason for 2 suits). That was also the reason we wore only the nylon. They had no stretch left after we pulled them on and was impossible to grab any fabric -- lycra always seemed to have a little to grab no matter how tight. The suits would start out about 3 inches on the side but by the time we stretched them on they were down to 1.5 or 2 inches. |
The best suit to wear for W-Polo is none at all.
Then there's nothing to grab (except at the front). :D |
