"I remember"
That makes a change - perhaps memory might also have noted that white suit was reserved for running and cycling only - and otherwise worn only in presence of teammate ?

Outside the bun
That story about Taco Bell creating a custom brief was great, I happened onto it when it was occurring and especially enjoyed the stir it created. Discussions really showed ignorance of our sport and the uniforms worn in it. Not to worry, USAS won't allow it anywhere it has jurisdiction; it's just for fun.
But back on topic, I expect that when we see outrageous tunneling as some of the examples illustrated, it's done as a dare, an expression of rebellion and to attract attention. Like how my friends and I had this contest as seniors in high school about who could get away with wearing the most obscene t shirt to class. As mentioned elsewhere tunneling isn't allowed usually, sorry, just like the t-shirts I removed upon request, misunderstanding that the teacher actually wanted me to leave the room. Yeah, I was a clown... but it was just for fun. Pretty innocent by today's standards, huh? However the "diver" who is actually a swimmer executing a great racing start certainly would not be wearing that suit in actual competition. His physical condition so admired suggests that he knows better than that. Serious swimmers just tend to look like that, there is only one muscle not well developed in that sport that we try to work on in dryland exercise. Good coaches stress it when parents complain about the posture and hunched forward shoulders that swimmers get. Yeah that's a great photo, a beautiful example of the physique we see in swimming. I bet he could blow me away in a fifty free. |

With whom?
Quote: "......really showed ignorance of our sport......" I had to laugh when I saw that and hope afewgoodmen has read it. Anyone with a bit of common sense, inside or outside water sports, would know that no diver departs from the platform or springboard at a pool in that body position - and doesn't wear goggles either. A racing start off the block by a swimmer fits the pic perfectly of course. |
"With whom" would be the bloggers responding to an article I read about the kid who wrote to Taco Bell with his request. They were pretty hung up about how people would wear such a thing and how the kid's parents would allow it. Much less what kind of parent would allow "perverts" to give their son "intimate apparel". Hilariously ignorant, no?
Other than that, we in the biz have to be careful about using the term "Diving" because it refers to an activity that is becoming outlawed in many pools. "Racing starts" are an important part of competition, we don't need the terms mixed up and used incorrectly or misunderstandings happen. It is a bone of contention at our own pool lately. Big problem. From a safety standpoint, of course, so kids retaliate by doing a flip from the side of the pool. It was a feet first entry, wasn't it? |
Agree.....
Yes, stunning photo - and am still disappointed that I cannot get an aerial shot to also read the lettering on the bum (maybe a club suit but not conclusive and he was obviously wearing something a little bit larger when tanning - just to add to this tantalising enigma).
Thanks for interesting background info. on the sport's administration - and hilariously ignorant certainly seems appropriate for the bloggers you describe. My own confession now - glutes are not Glutaneous but Gluteus muscles - so I must do revision on my encyclopaedia of human anatomy. Before I do I will say Quadriceps for quads however - in case that helps NJH PS: "diver" now being a terminological problem surprised me (however, my little obsession remains against journalists who want to write bikini for anything less than shorts). It might also be a bit of a headache for Google as the word covers the sport (the scoring of the perfect entry into the pool) - the cliff (the daring Red Bull exhibitions) - the sub aqua (the use of SCUBA in the depths) - and the commercial (repairing the legs of the maritime oil rigs, etc. - not forgetting the hold-your-breath guys going to the seabed in the Indian Ocean. |
BU

This pic is annotated "BU crack" but I am not sure whether the guys are from the Bulgarian Swim Team or B.........University. |
Boston University.
Their mascot is the Terrier, breeds which excel in tunnel competitions. :)
|
BU Swim
Good pic here but have I captured a Terrier?* (this guy in black speedos, not red)
http://cdn1.bostonmagazine.com/wp-co...swimming-1.jpg *have you heard of the Jack Russell? (usually good ratters) |
Probably, he's wearing the team cap but in practice swims any suit is okay, the previous picture was at a meet where uniform is required. BU has a really good team, extreme talent there.

Have to agree what this poster from another forum says about the Aqux here:
http://www.thespeedoforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=93765 btw being blown away in a fifty free was a puzzle - but then my brain was retuned to swim-speak |
kids' flips
As a PS to post #46 have I correctly read that cliff divers are also always feet first on entry as a safety measure against water surface impact ?

red bull
I need a slo-mo button but the answer seems to be yes (Tom Daley's ex synchro partner has joined them)
|
Red Bull
Byron, using "stop freeze", I agree that it is feet first.
|
freeze-frame
Thanks for confirmation Crail (we have heard sore stories from the celebs. attempting the high ones for their appearances on the Splash tv programme).
Btw, not knowing my Bostons from my Bulgarias I did find a proper Team BUL pic. after all - not a tunneler but their swimmer wears a nice black speedo (but lost it so must retrace to post , if I can ). |
I really like the look and fit of the Aqux in the yellow photo. It is sharp. Convinced me I need to downsize some more. Ordered a pair of bright green Seobeans in Small not medium today just to see if I could replicate the look in the photo.
Obviously, a lot of American guys have not yet bought into the idea of letting a bit of butt crack show. Interesting, I think that that look is so popular in Asia. |
Well I'm still working on getting full-out nude public swimming popular here but every time I try, the lifeguard calls the dang cops.
|
You have to find a pool without windows, declare yourself the secretary of a naturist club, find a willing qualified lifeguard and then hire the pool at a quiet time, with full knowledge and support of the pools management. Since you will be sitting at the door selling tickets and stopping anyone under 18 (without parents) from getting in. You won't get to swim or actually see anyone in the water.
It won't be very public, and unless you declare your group to be gay naturist you may be forced to balance male and female numbers (keeping out single males). |
LOL , or you could just say to heck with it, and just wear your SEobean or Aqux suit

As a PS to post#45 we clearly have a diver here but is the camera playing tricks with us on arm and feet? |

It might be only Louis who can explain the rear - in which case what is likely to be on the front? (clue is feuille) |
feuille
The answer to conundrum above is revealed on http://31.media.tumblr.com/89a16ff17...g3zto1_500.jpg (feuille means leaf and the Maple Leaf on the little red speedo identifies Canada) - (as well as all colors being red and white)

Good one (and rare)
Don't think so - not one I know anyway
(Olympics Adidas being worn certainly but is it TD ? - hairline and nose look wrong but that could be down to an image distortion in water) PS (No - I will correct myself - two wristbands indicate diver) |
amusing postscript

Embarrassed residents here in Conisborough Yorkshire England had the name changed to Archer Way . (historically accurate however as the communal water well once existed there and the local name for a well is butt hole). |

Looks like this was a big topic back when. I think on a fit guy with the right suit it's a hot look, as below.
