I've certainly tested the 1.5 brief at my local public pool and haven't had any problems. Not sure if I would be allowed to wear anything briefer than that.
Having said that, I've seen women wear bikinis at the same pool, as in that picture. It's quite surprising how that's allowed, as there must be a chance that the strings could unloosen?

This morning (and every once in a while), I will throw on my blue Solar for my daily laps. I'm always in a brief style suit anyway and all the regulars know each other. Never a problem, other guys in speedos/brief style too. I don't wear it that often due to the material wearing out way too quickly. This will probably be my last one, although I do a have a red one that I put away for other occasions.

It has become my regular swimwear now, for two reasons:

1. More comfortable, with virtually no 'drag'
2. There's no reason why I can't wear it. It doesn't seem to make any difference to people whether it's 1.5, 2 or 2.5 inch.

I have worn 1-1.5" Waveline suits for years. I pretty much stick to navy, black or royal blue so I don't stand out. (I have Yellow and Orange for home) I have never had a comment on them. For a brief period I wore a tanga suit a lot (that is a string side suit) At the time, HOM made a great one. When I had one on at one resort that was quite literally a string holding it on, I had one father give me the eye when he arrived with his daughters. Since we were the only ones at the pool I saw no need to get up an change -- I stayed at my end of the pool and them to theirs. In the evening he commented I wore quite a suit. I told him if I had known other were coming to the pool I would have worn more. He said as long as I wasn't parading around or trying to be noticed, he saw nothing wrong. (remember he had two young daughters) It seems that attitude is as much of a factor as what you are wearing.

Ordered a black Aussiebum 1.5 classic for an upcoming holiday to the tropics. I haven't worn one of them for a while. I like the brevity of them, but the fabric is a little on the thin side. However, I think that would be better for very warm water.

For lap swimming, I have been in speedo solar suits due to occasional sales on Amazon. They really don't last too long in chlorine. I have found a strong preference for the Tyr durafast material. It holds up in chlorine phenomenally. Don't care much about the sides while indoors at the pool. My fun colors of solars with 1.5" sides are saved for the beach with the kids.

I have a royal blue waveline 1" bikini but the colour has faded badly. Anyone else experienced this with waveline?

Strange thing about the Aussiebum arriving today. I normally wear large size swimwear, but I ordered a medium size in that brand - because that's what I ordered 3 years ago and it fitted perfectly.

This time, it was a little tight (I could see some flesh bulging!), but when I laid it flat to my other swimwear, the width was identical.

Not really sure what to do. If I ordered a large one it would probably be too slack.

Ordered a large one to replace it. Sent the old one back and they refunded my credit card. Can't fault the customer service.

So how does this one fit? Are you happy with it? Is it much bigger compared to the other one, side by side?

I am sure someone else with more knowledge about fabrics can provide a better comment.. but I would think that certainly over time, and between swimwear manufacturers, or even between product lines of one company, there will be differences in the density and stretchiness of different Spandex fabric blends. I have noticed with a lot of the Jammers I have acquired over the past two years that suits that seem to fit the same, when I take them off and compare them, vary quite a bit in the width of the suit.

Arrived yesterday. Fits perfectly, which is consistent with large size suits for me.

New to the board, but not new to Speedos and smaller bikini suits at all! I've worn them for many years. A favorite was a Male Power suit from a number of years ago, about 1.75" sides, contoured, purple and fucia V-stripes. No problem wearing it all the time in public spaces. Then I got a somewhat smaller lavender suit with contoured front and a sort of shaping back seam. Worn to beaches and pools, no issues, literally wore it out. It was really form fitting, and I got positive comment on a beach once. Of course, it was in Jamaica, and there were guys and gals in thongs out there, so I was not radical at all.

A favorite I had a zebra-stripe "Gazelle" suit, about 1" sides, very nice shape, wore that out everywhere too, and wore it out. Lately my go-to has been custom suites by Ron at Buffed Bod. I have several, I favor the animal prints, but like others too. And yes, I've had him make several thongs. The thongs are what I mostly wear now unless there are lots of people around (don't need the attitudes), but the wife loves me in a thong, so that's what I tend to stay in at the lake home and on the boat.

I have a leopard g-string suit from Skinz, got a few years on it now, but really like it. It's one of those sliding-front ones, I keep it slid for pretty much just vertical shape.

Green is my new color this year, and I have suits from swimoutlet on the way for size by Sporti, fairly small sides, but I haven't seen one yet. They'll be the medium "conservative" ones, and I have some regular shorts/trunks to wear when concerned about anyone's attitudes. There'll be a thong underneath, though, when I want to strip for tanning.

Yeah, on tanning, the smaller the better. This summer I'm trying a couple of tan-through suits from Kiniki. We'll see. And I don't swim competitively, but just hate anything big for that. The smaller the better.

I much prefer small/tiny suits, but I am sensitive to others, so I keep the smaller stuff and thongs in semi-private situations. And that's where I get the most appreciation anyway. And I have a few years on me now, shape isn't that of a 25 year old any more, but not bad if I do say so. I don't know what people would say to an older guy in a thong, but they may just get their chance!

I get my moral support over at the Thong Wearers Message Board. We are not conservative over there at all!!! I think you'd find that many are getting positive response from wearing thongs, so I don't know what the issue is wearing a 2" side speedo.

A 1.5" or 2" side Speedo would be fairly conservative for me.

Yes. Also bought one in royal blue colour. They're lasting well as I didn't wear them in the winter, but I'm wearing them every other swim now. Will be taking them on holiday to Greece next week.

I find Aussiebum sizing to be inconsistent at times. I have many of their suits and I'd have to say that I only wear maybe one or two of them. I feel like when you buy their suits on sale, the quality isn't as good as when you buy them full price.

Almost had doubts about them, as I thought the water in the hotel pool could be chilly at this time of year. But then some people swim naked in cold water, so I'm taking them!

Wore them every day in the hotel pool. My wife liked them, and the pool attendant remarked on me being a good swimmer. I said I swam regularly, but considering everyone else was weighed down with board shorts, there wasn't much to beat!
I was quite surprised with Greece. Even at the beaches near Athens I didn't see anyone in Speedos. The convention of the knee-length short is everywhere now!

It's probably different on the islands, but the ones near the capital are frequented by locals.

I wear a speedo 1" solar to the beach. No big deal. I have a greg homme camp suit with 3/4" sides I've worn too. But I'll admit it doesnt hide anything. Especially if the occasional arises......
