At last!
Joe - re. post#31 and the GCU Antelopes:
http://24.media.tumblr.com/15c23623c...rqhqo1_500.jpg Got a butt shot of at least a partial 'lope on their AgonSwims. |
I like this one, from 1992 Olympics, I think.
http://www.thezerosbeforetheone.com/...er_1215442.jpg Got to be a 1.5 inch brief. Reply With Quote This is indeed Tom Jager - US Olympian in 88 and 92. I'm positive the suit he is wearing is one of the dearly missed 'paper suits' from the late 80s-mid 90s era. They were made by Speedo, The Finals, and a few other makers. I still own a 30" navy blue Speedo paper suit, and having just measured the side seam, can confirm it is virtually a 1.5" suit (1 and 5/8 inches to be more precise). You also notice the hint of a white tag along the waist above Jager's left buttock, which is the exact same position where the Speedo tag is located in my suit. The paper-thin fabric left nothing to the imagination, and swimmers tended to downsize even these tiny suits, giving the suits an even briefer, skimpier appearance. The most wonderful swimsuits ever invented, in my humble opinion... |

Tom Jager
Again, great pic. - something of a white logo on the front too - not to mention the nice tanline as pointed out by Bede
|
I suspect the white logo we can not quite see on the front of Jager's suit says "USA" or something similar. Speedos sold here in the US have always (as far as I can remember) had the Speedo boomerang logo on the front of the suit on the swimmer's right side/right hip, so any team logos were on the swimmer's left hip side.

Olympics Speedos
Yep, that's how I remember them. Want an upright pic of TJ to prove the point but nothing I can find anywhere would you believe.

neat black suit...
Do I read Nutz on the label here ?

Quite agree.....
I'll remember that when browsing. Not too many to find but you should check out some earlier posts in cool photos thread (in fact I had forgotten how good that was) .
(where have you been Joe?) |
found another....
A racing dive butt for Joe and intriguing club lettering printed where I guess HS might mean R..... High School:

Great Looking Grey Suit
That Grey suit is wonderful, and it is being worn so well on a stunning smooth cut body!
|
now green...
Love this pic as low-cut suits are worn as three-of-a-kind on these guys - but actually each varies slightly in the clever random patterning:

How do you find them?
Byron,
Just out of curiosity, how and where do you find all these photos? You're like a research librarian in your ability to locate and identify specific suits or logos or lettering. You must spend lots of time searching. D67 |
Picture Post*
(*do you remember that lovely old monochrome publication, now long out of print?)
Do you want the long answer or the short answer? - OK , the long one: I can only post what is on the Internet and cannot go too far to the point of creating a new GoogleImages. They and tumblr are useful sources however and I have to think "do I find this slightly out of the run-of-the-mill for some reason?" If so might others agree? (bearing in mind forum readers may have already seen weeks ago what I want to post and be well aware of its detail). Then, "does this relate to a post I have seen on the forum and gives added information and/or the solution to a question?" The problem now is memory capacity as so many posts stack up on the forum which inevitably grows over almost three years (eg I have picked up on some recent Jakeds which seem to pop up everywhere - but if they feel familiar am I about to post an unnecessary repeat, either from myself or what has appeared previously in another thread ?) The time-consuming bit is looking at comments on interesting pics and comments are often by bloggers who by turn carry comments on their blogs. To avoid frazzling of the brain it can then be time to stop and pick up again another day when refreshed - but often a little gem will be buried in one of those somewhere. LOL - I can only think I have the genes of Conan Doyle's fictional detective - anyone on the board called Watson so that I can post "elementary"? (but if Fifty Free is worried, it's not obsessional) |
GCU again....
Just five of the team of post#23 this time (you see their gray suits have the AgonSwim but not the GCU - and we have seen both in other pics):
http://33.media.tumblr.com/e4e65c88f...g3zto1_500.jpg NB: Could be another explanation of course - the 'lopes of GCU choose gray Agonswim for their team and print the front accordingly - but ANOTHER team simply chooses to adopt the plain gray suit as produced by Agonswim and will not of course add GCU |
Ok boys the last photo commanded me to order one of those suits (are boys extra?). However when looking at the website I am confused with the two grey color choices. This is where I need your help. I am color blind in this color area (but I still like the look), so would someone please tell me the color name from the web site soI can select the correct color.
Much appreciated. |
info.
Re. post#59 GCU Head Swimming Coach explains:
It is left to team captains to choose a suit design each year for meets and practise. Therefore changes will be seen and this year the meet suit is charcoal or black, with 'lopes on it. The practise suit is a purple camouflage print. (he doesn't mention the retention or omission of "GCU" this time) |
watch this space.....
To bikiniman and singletlover et al:
I bet Joe* does not know what he started in post#21 with the rather unusual gray swim team suits being so desirable - but Louis is trying to resolve the problem with AgonSwim Custommade Dept. as to what shades of fabric color we are apparently seeing - and the different drawstrings and the printed emblems. * where is he these days? NB: be patient with the thread - after post#21 we go in and out of the search for gray speedos and it becomes confusing (as afewgoodmen found) PS: latest lopes' suit designs are already in a drawing - page 2 of the link in post#28 |
Sitting here anxious, like its Christmas Eve

On vacation....
.....but don't forget to put them on your list for him:

Not exactly what I remember growing up, but not saying I won't try new things!
|
times change....
:) Me too - and so hard for him to find any large lums* these days.
