Can anyone tell me why some guys have washboard abbs and some dont.
Some are well build and have and dont have.
some are rather skinny and have and dont have.
Is there special exercises to help develloping washboard abbs.
Or is it just natural depending on ones physique. thanks.

Sorry I forgot to add:
Are washboard abbs the shape of someones intestines trough there body.

They are usually the result of many hundreds of crunches and leg raises in an exercise routine but many guys do start with a genetic advantage and with some body types they really struggle to get definition.
The defined abdominal area is considered very pleasing and desirable aesthetically - as any male model seeking work will tell you.

The abs are the muscles of the abdominal wall which can be made prominent with the appropriate exercises, just as a bodybuilder may want
to show big biceps for the arms.
They hold everything firmly in place (or not if they are neglected and so the pot belly) and are definitely not the intestines which, to put it in a very simplified way, are a long curling network of tubes for processing our food.

The human body ranges from ectomorph through mesomorph to endomorph.

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ectomorph&hl=en&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=sn6lT7PfE-eX1AXm89GDBA&ved=0CHUQsAQ&biw=874&bih=659

The ectomorphs are skinny distance runner types, however hard they train they are unlikely to produce discernible muscle bulk, instead of large muscle fibres they produce wiry tough muscles needed to cover distance.
The Cubans choose young ectomorphs as boxers, after intensive training they develop muscle and win heavyweight Olympic gold.

The mesomorphs become sprinters, when trained they develop the big muscles and firm abs. Although they can run distance they prefer not to and tend to spend the winter indoors doing gym and weight training.

The endomorphs end up throwing the shot and discus. They put on a lot of either muscle bulk or fat very easily. They have tremendous power for a short period of time, over 60m they are unstoppable, over 100m they are struggling, they rarely run 200m.
When fit they have dramatic abs.
If you get in a fight with an endomorph learn to dance, block and duck, wait until they tire then wear them down with sharp blows from all directions. You may have longer reach than them so use it.

If you are an ectomorph unless you are willing to perform the Cuban Olympic boxing teams training regime and diet you will never get abs, but some people find that slim is hot.

Yes - interesting to see that triathlons show up body types
with some variations and where competitors may be lacking
in one part of the event they will likely make up time in another.

Two guys here of similar body type but likely that one guy
has had more abs workouts (the overall appearance can
vary a lot between individuals and a 6 pack can sometimes
be just a 4 pack):

The guy on the left seems ectomorphic while the guy on the right is mesoporphic, both are fit.
Nice pic.

Holy cats Torchwatch, did you get a morphine shot or something with all those ectom.... mesom... and endom.... terms...
Hey Byron I would be greatly satisfied with only 3 packs that would be just swell.

Byron

.........must be three in there somewhere:(

LOL - now see what you've started
- here beginneth the Greek lesson:

Ecto- from ektos meaning "outside"
Meso- from misos meaning "middle of"
Endo- from endon meaning "within"

Your question raises interesting issues as usual
and this guy for example is a bit of a mystery.

He looks comfortable enough to be hanging about
in his exercise routine and appears to want to
include some arm stretching as well.
It seems however that someone has taken away
his ladder.

Hmmmm, he looks quite limb-er. :D Thanks for the eye candy, Byron. All are abs-olutely enticing. :: silly grin :: with a LOL

:) LOL - thanks Crail (and I got the arboreal joke).

I shall have to blame Louis for my penchant - I get the excuse
sometimes to search for some yummies - and there are so many
good ones out there in which to indulge onesself that it requires
very little prompting I have to say. A little self-discipline must
be imposed however, if not to over-egg the pudding so to speak
(not sure whether that phrase is known in the US).

over-egg the pudding - if people don't get it; would the yoke be on them. :)

LOL - one who didn't see the yoke in time and responded (the former Deputy PM was once a boxer):

LOL - one of the perils of political campaigning. Could have been a good scrap actually as they were well matched - but pulled apart and police later decided NFA so I guess it had to be declared a draw on points.

PS: Forgot the obvious on the guy up the tree - not improving his abs but likely to have been auditioning for the next Tarzan movie.

Low body fat...

+ abs exercises regularly...

Torchwatch

Yes NJH, diet and exercise.

If I remember correctly you were very slim when young.
You need to use light weights with multiple reps, multiple sets, and train several times a week to develop those abs.

Diet, high protein, low fat, try lentils, rice and fruit.

To lose weight, one should eat "low GI" food, clean food, whole food, etc.
Body builders have to eat fat too, that's unsaturated fat, omega-3,etc. Also protein and complex carbohydrate.

To show body definitions, ripped muscle, they have to reduce salt/sodium and water as much as possible.

Rice and many fruits actually can make people fat. Brown rice and whole wheat bread should be better choices...

I meant citrus fruits, they are supposed to accelerate energy consumption.
Oats are good too, maybe porridge for breakfast.

Sure!

.....Six packs abs are not easy to get, sometime involve eating tasteless food... :o

You seem to have lost weight NJH - if that was summer 2011.

(rather odd - you managed a big pic for Louis here but it turned
into a new thread - and that's where Sebbie has responded).

Louis. One word for building ABS
STATIONARY Rowing machine.
Use 30-60 minutes a day every day.
there is a Stamina 1205 machine you can find on Rowingmachines.com that costs about $230.
It will solve your problem with regular use. In the process you will build your shoulders and pecs as well

Last few years, I was visiting body building forums. I learned the way to diet, the way to train. After 1 year of diet and 6 months of revising weight training routine, I was at the point of that photo last summer.

Winter was a good time to gain weight, for the purpose of gaining size. A couple months, I gain almost 30 lbs (fat), with regular training. Now I am just starting to shed the lbs and getting ready for summer.

For my photo, I wanted to start a thread and posting it within the "General Mens Swim Suit Guy Talk" forum. Then linking it from here...

OK - seems to have produced some benefits.

LOL - there's a guy here doing a lot of muscle-stretching no doubt but it seems it should come with one of those warnings to say "Don't try this at home".
